Continue events like this that promote the patrol method
I ran one of the stations at the event and absolutely loved to see the patrols working together, brainstorming, overcoming obstacles, and coming up with solutions as a team. Really helped to promote patrol identity and patrol spirit as the teams that best displayed those qualities seemed to perform the best.
Kudos to Ron and Scott for pulling off an outstanding event.

Reverence is different from Patriotism
As someone who was part of this problem I'm being self critical. The Chapel Service exhibited more patriotism and less reverence. It's a common mistake in Scouting (and America, IMHO) to confuse the two.
Let me be clear that a December 7, Pearl Harbor Day beginning to the Chapel Service was a good idea. And, I know that we did not have a lot of time to plan what we did (sorry).
What I would have preferred is this topic transitioning into humble service to God's ideals for us all.
Scouts need to hear the distinction between patriotism and reverence.6 votes -
Start being clearer about vehicles on site
On the face of it, we heard a no-exception "all vehicles out of camp" announcement. But we then see a whole parking lot of vehicles at the staff areas. Maybe I misunderstood (probably), but I thought it meant that all vehicles were to be in the parking lot.
I prefer minimum rules. But the ones we have being enforced.
ALSO: whenever a rule is laid down, compliance is related to respecting us enough to explain some of why the rule exists.4 votes -
District Event Handbook
A handbook with the basic guidelines of organizing and running an event such as this would be useful. I feel we probably keep reinventing the wheel when new personnel take charge of events. As a first time Program Director I had use of individuals with prior knowledge, but nothing in a literary format for guidance. A written document with a punchlist of tasks would have been very helpful and avoided some of the last minute scrambles that occured to take care of overlooked items. I plan on putting together something along these lines for my own use and will send… more

1st Timboree 4 us. Great event. Needs a smidge of polish
The guide was very helpful in preparing. Some things in print were missing at the event. There was no Trading Post or quartermaster. Guide states if you can not bring equipment, it can be checked out. Completely dislike autos in camp, if you want to camp in a parking lot than go to WalMart. Please no autos - only for first aid and equipment transport - leaders walk. Need 2 people at check in. The stations were super. We all, had a good time. Thank you for your hard work.

First Aid needed the shelter and burn barrel as promised
This is a START. Your nurse/match lady got very cold staying in one place as was required all day. Needed the shelter and burn barrel that was promised to me to lure me out of my cave in December to camp.
CONTINUE-Campfire was great,(snow made a neat visual!) chapel nice, event stations were great. Loved the patrol work. Loved that the stations covered some essential scout skills and team building skills. Staff meal option was great. Thank you Ed. Event appeared well-planned, good communication between all the big chiefs (Scott, Ron...) Agree about publicity to encourage other districts' attendance.

Camp needs a gate.
START-Camp needs a barrier to stop vehicle traffic on Saturday. (Alternative for the veterans-could be shuttled in/out by Admin staff). Lots of cars in camp. Allow it or dont allow it. Needed consistency of enforcement in either direction

Ladies Only Outhouse
Continue-thanks for the ladies only outhouse.
START- Also would have liked to have a ladies portapotty at the opposite side of the camp circle for the gals that couldnt wander into the woods like the boys did.1 vote -
Great event with two exceptions...
Lay off with the robed guy with a spear threatening the boys if they're late. That's tin-god behavior. How about thanking them and the parents/leaders for giving up their weekend to be at the Timboree? Makes better PR sense. Lose the military bearing and secure a better following. Better greeting at the gate and a much better opening ceremony. Then stand back and watch it grow!

How to attract more boys
This event was incredibly well planned and executed. The boys that were there had a great time. How do we get more boys to attend next time? Do we need a cheesy attraction like a visit from a NASCAR driver?
